Chris Blackwell
Blackwell served in the special Collapse Rescue unit for the last twelve years. He received several commendations for bravery, including a medal for helping remove people from an airplane that had slipped off the runway at LaGuardia Airport. He was a teacher for the State of New York and for the Fire Department Instructors Conference.

Patrick Brown
Captain Brown became well known for his May 1991 dramatic rope rescue of two victims from the window ledge of the 12th floor of a Manhattan high-rise, where the flames were at the victims' backs and there was nothing to tie a rescue rope to.

Donald Burns
Chief Burns worked his way up through the ranks. As a captain in research and development, he pushed people to attend the Fire Department Instructors Conference. He taught high-rise firefighting at the New York State Fire Academy. He helped write Fire Engineering's coverage of the World Trade Center Bombing in 1995, which became the official report of the U.S. Fire Administration.

Ray Downey
Chief Downey was the USAR task force leaders' representative to FEMA for all 27 teams, and a member of FEMA's Advisory Committee. He commanded rescue operations at the Oklahoma City Bombing and served on numerous terrorism task forces and panels. He was an advisory board member of Fire Engineering and of the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC), and was a teacher to firefighters nationwide through Hands on Training (H.O.T.) classes at FDIC and FDIC West.

Andy Fredericks
Fredericks was a New York State-certified fire instructor at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona, New York, and an adjunct instructor at the New York State Academy of Fire Science. He held a master's degree in fire protection management, and taught at the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute. Fredericks developed the Fire Engineering "Bread and Butter" videos and was a Hands on Training (H.O.T.) class instructor at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC).

Dana Hannon
Hannon began his fire service career as a volunteer in the Wyckoff, NJ, Fire Department, where he attained the rank of captain. He was hired by the Bridgeport, CT, Fire Department where he earned a Medal of Valor for the rescue of an elderly civilian. He was a Hands-On Training (H.O.T.) instructor at the Fire Department Instructors Conference.

Terry Hatton
Captain Hatton previously was a firefighter in Rescue 2 and a lieutenant in Rescue 4. He realized the need for a technical rescue school and helped FDNY create one of the most disciplined fire department rescue schools in the country.

George Howard
Howard was a volunteer firefighter with the Hicksville Fire Department on Long Island, where he served as captain of Emergency Company 5. He assisted the New York State Fire Academy in implementing its confined space program, and was a member of the National Fire Protection Association Committee for Technical Rescue.

Billy McGinn
Lieutenant McGinn previously was a firefighter in Squad 1. He was known for constantly drilling his squads in high-rises. He was a Hands on Training (H.O.T.) instructor at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC).

Dennis Mojica
Lieutenant Mojica had approximately 25 years with the Fire Department, and had used his airplane mechanic's knowledge at various crash scenes in and around New York. He trained the USAR team in Puerto Rico, and was an instructor in FDNY's Technical Rescue School.
